Aquí les comparto la única imagen promocional que hay hasta la fecha, del film de animacíon generada por computadora (3D) "Futbolín/Metegol /Foosball".

La película está siendo cooproducida entre Argentina y España con un staff internacional, bajo la dirección del ganador del "Oscar" Juan José Campanella .

La dirección de animación en Argentina está a cargo de Federico Radero, y desde España la supervisión de animación llega desde el ojo de Sergio Pablos.

Desde hace un par de días me incorporé por tiempo completo al proyecto como "lead animator".

The film is a coproduction between Argentina and Spain with an international staff under direction of the "Oscar" winner Juan Jose Campanella.

Disfrutando a Grillo / Enjoying Grillo

La semana pasada tuve el agrado de asistir a la inauguración de la muestra de ilustraciones de Oscar Grillo,"Gente de Londres".

Si bien ya había tenido la oportunidad de ver trabajos originales de Oscar, esta ves pude disfrutar su obra desde otro ángulo -desde un punto de vista que se me ha ido formando a lo largo de años siguiendo su obra a través de sus blogs- y seguir corroborando que este hombre realmente es un fuera de serie.

Quizás el espectador casual sienta algún rechazo ante los grotezcos personajes, y hasta se permita pensar "...¿este tipo dibuja bien?...si hace todo deforme!!...", o quizás simplemente se sienta atraido y entretenido por la obra de Oscar; una obra que entretiene porque nació de el propio disfrute del artista.

Y entender ese disfrute, entender que este hombre disfruta muchisimo mientras dibuja, es fundamental para entender su obra, mejor dicho, para "disfrutar" su obra.

Sin duda un elemento clave para darle contenido de sus imagenes es la tremenda capacidad de observación; la obra misma lo dice en la cantidad y diversidad de elementos, fisonomias, situaciones, actitudes, acciones, y características de la gente que dibuja. Grillo observa, guarda, elabora a su gusto, y lo tira todo sobre la hoja sin pudor y con absoluta libertad expresiva. Grillo simplemente expresa y cuenta.

Pero todo esto viene acompañado por muchos años de dedicación y trabajo, por muchas horas dibujando mucho, por tanto tiempo dedicado al dibujo formando un lenguaje propio que lo deja expresarse con la facilidad que cualquier persona lo hace en su lengua materna.

Y Grillo también viene de muchos años de comunicar (Animación, comerciales, ilustración, libros, etc) y sabe muy bien de que se trata hablarle a la gente con imagenes.

En mi opinión, lo más atractivo de la obra de Grillo, es la libertad con la que está hecha. Eso se nota. Lo nota cualquiera. Se nota en los trázos firmes, en los colores, en la composición, en los tamaños de las figuras. En todo se nota libertad.

"Oscar Grillo" hace rato que es un "nombre" dentro del mundo del dibujo, no le tiene que rendir cuenta a nadie. No tiene que demostrarle a nadie que es un gran dibujante. No le importa. Y si le importara, no sería libre.

Festejo entonces las manos libres y virtuosas de este magnifico observador, y la posibilidad de poder apreciar su arte bien de cerca.

Si uno nunca vió un loro en su vida, no puede corroborar si un dibujo de un loro es acertado. Solo le queda creer y aceptar el trabajo de el hombre que dibujo ese loro.

Si usted al igual que yo, no conoce Londres. Puede empezar por conocer su gente a través de esta muestra. Puede empezar por creerle al artista. Puede empezar, al igual que yo, por creerle a Grillo.

Last week I went to saw to the inauguration of the Oscar Grillo's exibition, " London People ".

Though already it had the opportunity to see Oscar´s original works , this time I could enjoy his work since another angle -since a point of view that has gone himself forming along years, because I followed his work through his blogs- and to continue corroborating that this man really is an exceptional one.

Perhaps the coincidental spectator feel some refusal before the exagerated characters, and even he be permitted to think “...¿ this guy draws well? ...if he does all deformed! !...”, or perhaps simply he feel attracted and entertained by the work of Oscar; a work that entertains because was born of the own enjoyment of the artist.

And to understand that enjoyment, to understand that this man enjoys a lot while he draws, is fundamental to understand his work, better I will said, "to enjoy" his work.

Without doubt a key item to give content of his images is the tremendous capacity of observation; the same work says it in the quantity and diversity of elements, , situations, attitudes, actions, and characteristics of the people that he draws. Grillo observes, keeps, devises to its flavor, and throws it all on the leaf unashamedly and with absolute expressive liberty. Simply Grillo express and tell.

But all this comes accompanied by many years of dedication and work, for many hours drawing a lot, therefore time dedicated to the drawing forming an own language that leaves her to be expressed with the facility that any person does in her mother language.

And Grillo also comes from many years of to communicate (Animation, commercials, illustration, books, etc) and he knows very well to speak to the people with images.

In my opinion, the more attractive thing from Grillo`s work, is the liberty with this is done. Anybody notes this. It is noted in the lines, in the colors, in the composition, in the sizes of the figures. In all, liberty is noted.

"Oscar Grillo" is a "name" inside the world of the drawing, he has not to yield account to nobody. he has not to show anyone that he is a great drafstman. To him does not interest it. And if he interest it, he would not be free.

I celebrate then the free hands and virtuous of this great observer, and the possibility to be able to appreciate his art well closely.

If one never it saw a parrot in its life, cannot corroborate if a drawing of a parrot is true. Only can to believe and to accept the work of the man that drawing that parrot. If you, just like me, does not know London. You can begin for knowing his people through this exibition. You can begin for believing the artist. You can begin, just like me, believing him to Grillo.

Hace un par de años, fuí convocado por Marcelo Niño a participar en un homenjaje al dibujante argentino Oswal.

About two years ago, I was called by Marcelo Niño to participate in a homage to the Argentine draftsman, Oswal.

La idea era hacer una ilustración relacionada con Sónoman (su personaje más popular) en un formato de tarjeta postal, con dedicatoria incluida. The idea was to do an illustration related to Sónoman (his more popular comic character) in a postcard format, with dedication included.

En el homenaje participaron muchísimos dibujantes argentinos. Desde los mas novatos hastas grandes maestros consagrados, lo que demuestra el respeto que todos sienten por la persona de Oswal.
A lot of Argentine draftsmans participated in the homage. Since the inexperienced artist to the greatest consecrated teachers, it shows us the respect that all this people feel to the person of Oswal.

Today, November 10, we celebrate in Argentina the Draftsman day . This day was established by the "Asociacion de Dibujantes Argentinos" in the year 1942, upon being carried out in that date (10 of nov.) the first one great draftsman´s dinner.

La compocición digital es de Pablo Zamparini y Nicolás Fernandez. Y la supervisión general de Cristian Morales y Franco Bittolo.

All the 3D technical aspects (modeling, lighting, render, etc.) were made by Leo Dobbins and Pablo Contento. The walk cycle animation that is repeated along the commercial was made by Leandro Pedrouzo, and the remainder scenes were animated by Ariel Garcia. La semana pasada fuí al Jardín de infantes de mis hijas, para mostrar a los niños como se hacen los dibujos animados.
Last week I was to the kindergarten of my daughters, to show the children how to make animated cartoons.

En este hermoso encuentro proyectamos cortos de Mickey mouse, hice un par de dibujos sobre mi tablero, y todos bailamos junto al elefante animado por mí ,y coloreado por los niños de las salas "Delfines" y "Elefantes". Un trabajo en equipo, con un resultado muy divertido. Lo disfruté mucho.

In this beautiful encounter we project Mickey Mouse shorts, I did a couple of drawings on my animation desk, and all we dance next to the elephant animated by me, and colored by the children of the classrooms "Dolphins" and "Elephants". A teamwork, with a very funny result. I enjoyed it a lot.

En Mayo de 1980 - hace exactamente 30 años - el Festival de cine de Cannes otorgaba la palma de oro en la categoría mejor cortometraje a "Seaside Woman", una magnífica pieza de animación dirigida, animada, y diseñada por Oscar Grillo.

In May of 1980 - exactly 30 years ago - the Cannes film Festival offered the golden palm in the category best short film to "Seaside Woman", a magnificent piece of animation directed, animated, and designed by Oscar Grillo.

Desde mi punto de vista , el diseño es parte fundamental de este cortometraje. En un hábil despliegue de colores primarios, las negras siluetas de los personajes se desplazan con libertad y frescura rodeadas de elementos y recursos gráficos, generando una estética única (la de Oscar), que se complementa a la perfección con la alegre y pegadiza banda sonora.

Since my point of view, the design is a fundamental element of this short film. In a skillful unfold of primary colors, the characters black silhouettes displace with liberty and coolness surrounded by graphics elements and graphic resources, generating an unique esthetics (Oscar`s esthetics), that is complemented to the perfection with the happy and catchy soundtrack.

“In the bleak animation landscape of the 1980s, this stood out like a beacon of light…It showed animation could still be fresh, fun, stylish and skillfully done without formula.”

Oscar Grillo es argentino y vive en Londres desde hace muchos años. Hace un par de semanas tuve el placer de conocerlo en persona aquí en Buenos Aires; luego de varios años de intercambiar pensamientos y frases absurdas a través de los comentarios en sus numerosos Blogs.
Si usted tiene en cuenta que yo vivo en Argentina y hablo español, notará la importancia que tiene para mi una personalidad como la de Oscar Grillo. Él es el único nexo entre mi país (mi idioma), con la historia de la animación en el mundo. Él conoció a muchos de los grandes animadores que construyeron este arte y él también es parte de esta historia; una historia basicamente escrita en inglés, y desarrollada en el hemisferio norte, bastante lejos de casa.
Grillo estuvo ahí, Grillo está allá, pero después de conocerlo, no tengo dudas de que Grillo es de bien de acá.

Oscar Grillo is Argentine and he lives in London since many years ago. A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure to know him in person here in Buenos Aires; after various years to exchange thoughts and absurd phrases through the comments in his numerous Blogs. If you keeps in mind that I live in Argentina and I speak spanish, you will note the importance that has for me a personality as that of Oscar Grillo. He is the only link among my country (my language), with the history of the animation in the world. He knew to many of the bigger animators that built this art and he is also part of this history; a history basicly written in English, and developed in the north hemisphere, far from my house. Grillo was there, Grillo is there, but after I knowing him, I do not have doubts that Grillo is from here.

El "Bebe" Ciupiak

En la primavera de 1995, mi padre me planteó la posibilidad de ir a hacer un taller con un hombre que (según le habían dicho unos amigos) era un dibujante extraordinario. Luego de un largo viaje en colectivo, me encontré sentado a la mesa de una vieja casona de Olivos, copiando un limón iluminado por el sol de la tarde. El extraordinario dibujante era el “Bebe” Alberto Ciupiak. Ese fué mi primer encuentro con un dibujante profesional. Y vaya que dibujante!!!
Yo no lo sabía en ese momento, pero el “Bebe” había trabajado en todos lados (Identikits, televisión, diarios, revistas, publicidad..), y conocía a todos los grandes dibujantes de la argentina. Las clases eran enormes monólogos llenos de anecdotas, y siempre acompañadas de algunas copias sueltas de los libros de Loomis, donde aprendí que la paciencia es fundamental para lograr un resultado exitoso en una ilustración, y en cualquier expresión artística.
Lamentablemente, fueron solo unos pocos meses de encuentros, y desde ese entonces no volví a ver al maestro.
Hace unas horas recibí la noticia de la muerte del “Bebe”.
Desde aca va mi recuerdo, mi respeto y las gracias por sembrar y contagiar entusiasmo y respeto por el arte del dibujo.

In the spring of 1995, my father presented me the possibility to going to do a workshop with a man that (according some friends said him) was an extraordinary draftman. After a long bus trip, I found me seated at the table of an old large house in "Olivos", copying a lemon illuminated by the afternoon sun. The extraordinary draftman was "el Bebe" Alberto Ciupiak.
That was my first encounter with a professional draftman. I did not know at this time, but "el Bebe" had worked in a lot of sites (Identikits, television, newspapers, magazines, publicity. .), and he knew all the bigger draftman of Argentina. The classes were enormous full monologs of anecdotes, and always accompanied by some loose copies of the Loomis books, where I learned that the patience is fundamental to achieve a successful result in an illustration, and in any artistic expression.
Sadly, were only a few months of encounters, and since that then I did not see again the teacher.
Some hours ago I received the news about the death of "el Bebe". From here goes my memory, my respect, and the thanks to sowing and to infect enthusiasm and respect by the drawing art.

El sonido / The sound:

No hay lugar a duda si decimos que el elemento que domina claramente en esta pieza es el “contraste”.
De la misma manera que aparece el contraste en el diseño de los personajes dentro del aspecto visual, es fácilmente reconocible dentro del aspecto sonoro del clip.
Las voces suaves y delicadas de las coristas se oponen notoriamente a la voz grave y rasposa de BiP, y no solo en el sonido que emiten, sino también en las melodías que entonan cada uno de ellos.
Esta característica genera algo que podríamos llamar “ gag musical ” (nos divierte a través de la música sin necesidad de imágenes) . El contraste sonoro produce una banda desprolija y quizás carente de estructura, que descoloca a nuestro oído, nos sorprende, y en consecuencia nos produce la risa.

There is not place to doubt if we say that the element that dominates clearly in this piece is the "contrast". In the same way that the contrast appears in the characters design, inside the visual aspect, it is easily recognizable inside the sonorous aspect of the clip. The delicate and smooth voices of the chorus girls are opposed notoriously to the rough and serious voice of BiP, and not only in the sound that they emit, also in the melodies that intone each one of them. This characteristic generates something that would be able to call "musical gag" (entertains us through the music without need of images). The sonorous contrast produces a disorderly band and perhaps lacking of structure, that confuses to ours ears, surprises us, and consequently the laughter produces us.

Otro punto a destacar, es que los personajes poseen un idioma propio, que paradójicamente (ya que nadie lo comprende) se convierte en universal, y así entretiene a cualquier espectador del mundo.

Another point to emphasize, is that the characters possess an own language, that paradoxically (since nobody understands him) becomes universal, and thus this entertains any spectator around the world.

Frank Oz - Jim Henson

En la comedia visual, el actor utiliza su cuerpo como herramienta de expresión. En este caso, el títere se convierte en esa herramienta.
La habilidad y el oficio del titiritero para manipular al títere es un factor de suma importancia para el éxito final de la pieza.
El titiritero (además de darle vida) es quién otorga “personalidad” al títere.
En esta oportunidad los responsables de entretenernos son nada más y nada menos que Jim Henson (Bip Bippadotta) y Frank Oz (las dos “Snowths”).

In the visual comedy, the actor utilizes his body as tool of expression. In this case, the puppet becomes that tool. The ability and the craft of the puppeteer to manipulate to the puppet is an importance sum factor for the final success of the piece. The puppeteer (besides giving him life) is who give "personality" to the puppet. In this opportunity the responsible for entertaining us are swum more and nothing less than Jim Henson (Bip Bippadotta) and Frank Oz (the two "Snowths").

Que un solo titiritero (Frank Oz) sea el responsable de manipular a las dos coristas, aporta cierta facilidad a determinadas acciones que hacen a la personalidad de este dúo: Sincronización en los movimientos, igual timing, simetría en el baile, y repetición de acciones. Estos elementos, sumado a la suavidad propia de personajes femeninos, terminan de construir la personalidad de estas maravillosas coristas creadas solamente para endulzar nuestros oídos con un ..dup…dup…dururu…!!!

That a single puppeteer (Frank Oz) be the responsible for manipulating the two chorus girls, give certain facility to determined actions that do to the personality of this duet: Synchronization in the movements, equal timing, symmetry in the dance, and repetition of actions. These elements, added to the own smoothness of female characters, finish to build the marvelous chorus girls personality, created only to sweeten our ears with a ..dup…dup…dururu…!!!

Jim Henson posee con “Bip” libertad completa para moverse en el escenario, y nos deleita con un perfecto manejo del timing.
Siendo coherente con su diseño desprolijo, “Bip” se mueve sin respetar ningún patrón preestablecido, y nos sorprende con una gran rutina de aparición y desaparición, responsable de robarnos varias sonrisas.

Jim Henson possesses with "Bip" complete liberty to be moved in the stage, and delights us with a perfect timing management. Being coherent with his disorderly design, "Bip" moves without respecting some preestablished path, and surprises us with a great routine of apparition and disappearance, responsible for stealing us several smiles.

Aquí aparece nuevamente el contraste como elemento clave. Las acciones y las reacciones de las “Snowths” son notablemente opuestas a las de Bip. Y Bip es el encargado de romper con la prolijidad, desconcertando tanto a las “Snowths” como al mismo espectador, y con su actitud tenaz e irreverente se convierte en un verdadero comediante.

Here the contrast appears again as key item. The "Snowths" actions and reactions are notably opposed to the Bip actions. And Bip is the responsible for breaking with the order, disconcerting to the "Snowths" as to the same spectator, and with his tenacious and irreverent attitude, he becomes a true comedian.

Lo que usted acaba de leer es un análisis que hice con motivo de estudio y placer, y para comprender en mayor profundidad, porque esta pieza audiovisual me divierte a mí y a montones de personas en el mundo.

Desde mi punto de vista, el arte de los títeres, el arte de la animación, el arte de la comedia, el arte del entretenimiento audiovisual (que poseen numerosas cosas en común), deben ser encarados con mucho respeto para poder alcanzar resultados satisfactorios.
La vigencia de los Muppets es una clara muestra de este concepto.

It that just you read is an analysis that I did only for to study and pleasure, and to understand more deeply, why this audiovisual piece entertains me and to a lot of people in the world.

Since my point of view, the puppets art, the animation art, the comedy art, the audiovisual entertainment art (that possess numerous things in common), should be faced with a lot of respect to can reach satisfactory results. The force of the Muppets is a clear sample of this concept.

La animación de dibujos sobre papel permite al artista romper todo tipo de reglas físicas.
El personaje puede romperse, estirarse, aplastarse, transformarse y hacer cualquier acción que brote de la imaginación del artista ( dibujante-animador) y se traduzca al papel - y posteriormente a la pantalla - mediante su habilidad con el lápiz.

The animation of drawings on paper, permits the artist to break all kind of physical rules. The character can be broken, to be stretched, to be crushed, to be transformed and to do any action that spring up from the artist imagination (draftman-animator) and he be translated to the paper - and subsequently to the screen - through his ability with the pencil.

A diferencia de otras técnicas, la animación dibujada a mano utiliza elementos gráficos para potenciar determinadas acciones.
Valiendose de la libertad que brinda una hoja en blanco, el animador muchas veces descarta partes del personaje (o el personaje por completo), para suplantarlas por líneas sueltas o esfumados de grafito (traducidas al acetato a través del pincel seco), logrando así numerosos efectos visuales que hacen única a esta técnica , y han servido para entretener y sorprender al expectador desde el nacimiento de este arte hasta por lo menos el momento en que usted esta leyendo este artículo.

As opposed to other techniques, the hand drawn animation utilizes graphic elements to promote determined actions. Thanks to the liberty that offers a blank paper, the animator many times delete character´s elements (or all the character), to replace them by loose lines or faded of graphite (translated to the cel through the dry brush), achieving thus numerous visual effects that do unique to this technique, and they have served to entertain and to surprise to the expectador since the birth of this art to the moment in which you are reading this article.

Hoy, 10 de noviembre, se celebra en Argentina el día del dibujante. Este día fue establecido por la Asociacion de dibujantes argentinos en el año 1942, al realizarse en esa fecha (10 de nov.) la primer gran cena de dibujantes.

Today, November 10, we celebrate in Argentina the Draftsman day . This day was established by the "Asociacion de Dibujantes Argentinos" in the year 1942, upon being carried out in that date (10 of nov.) the first one great draftsman´s dinner.

Hoy también, los argentinos celebramos el día de la tradicíon. Recordando el nacimiento de José Hernández, autor del poema gauchesco mas importante de la literatura argentina, "El gaucho Martín Fierro" .

Today also, the Argentines we celebrate the tradition day. Recalling the birth of José Hernández, author of the most important poem of the literature Argentina, "The gaucho Martín Fierro".

Unos años atrás, cuando trabajaba para "Hook Up animation studio" aquí en Buenos Aires, tuvimos la oportunidad de realizar decenas de separadores para la señal de televisión Boomerang del Reino Unido.
Aquí les dejo un video donde podrán ver algunas de esas piezas, y una imagen donde podrán identificar al animador que realizó cada una de ellas.

Some years ago, when worked for "Hook Up animation studio" here in Buenos Aires, we had the opportunity to make some pieces for Boomerang United Kingdom channel. Here is a video where you will be able to see some of those pieces, and an image where you will be able to identify the animator that made each one of them.

Al trabajar con personajes clásicos, debíamos respetar tanto la estética, como también el estilo de animación de cada uno de ellos (Esto no sucede en la pieza de “Pendfold” - animada por mi-, en la cual, la idea requería una animación full, y no algo limitado como lo que se veía en la serie de TV de Danger Mouse).

Upon working with classical characters, we should respect so much the esthetics, as also the animation style of each one of them (This does not happen in the piece of "Pendfold" - animated by me -, in which, the idea required a full animation , and done not something limit as what was seen in the Danger Mouse tv series).

Entre estas animaciones, se encuentra una pieza muy particular dentro mi carrera como animador: La secuencia del león, de la cual explicaré el proceso de realización en una próxima entrada.

Among these animations, there is an animation piece very important to my career as animator: The lion sequence, of which I will explain the process of execution in a next entrance.

El Sabado 31 de Octubre , junto a los grandes animadores y amigos, Federico Radero, Pedro Blumenbaum, y Pablo Lorenzo, compartiré el escenario del aula magna de la sede Medrano de la Universidad Tecnológica Nacional para brindar una charla abierta al público, sobre diversos aspectos del arte de la animación.

La cita es a las 21:50 hs en Medrano 951 (CapitalFederal), y se presenta dentro de la jornada de cine de animación que es parte del encuentro "24 horas de cine nacional", con entrada libre y gratuita.

Se realizarán proyecciones, y se hará una pequeña muestra del trabajo del animador tanto en el area 2d como 3d, tratando de mostrar un claro panorama de lo que comprende la tarea del animador y el desarrolo del arte de la animación.

Quedan todos invitados,los esperamos.

El viernes pasado a la madrugada , mientras en la televisión anunciaban que Mercedes Sosa seguía internada en estado grave en un centro médico de Buenos Aires, hice este pequeño boceto con marcadores.

Last Friday to the early morning, while the television announced that Mercedes Sosa continued serious in a medical center here in Buenos Aires, I did this small sketch with markers.

Mercedes Sosa es, fué, y será la voz femenina del flolklore argentino, y también una de las mas grandes cantantes latinoamericanas. Su voz llevó por el mundo entero las poesías y los ritmos, las alegrías y el dolor, del pueblo latinomericano. Con su labor de cantora lleno de emoción el corazon de la gente; pero sobre todo, hizo que el pueblo cante y siga cantando.

She is, she was, and will be the female voice of the argentinian folcklore music, and also one of the best Latin-American singers. Her voice carried around the world the poetry and the rhythms, the happinesses and the pain, of the Latin-american folks. With her work of singer she filled of emotion the heart of the people; but above all, she did that the people sing and continue singing.

Hoy, 4 de octubre, Mercedes Sosa falleció en Buenos Aires a los 74 años.

Today, October 4, Mercedes Sosa passed away in Buenos Aires at the age of 74.

Lino Palacio fue un maestro del humor gráfico argentino.
Más allá de ser el creador de grandiosos personajes de tiras humorísticas, considero que lo mas memorable y magistral de su trabajo , fueron las portadas para la revista "Billiken".

Lino Palacio was a Argentine cartoonist master. Beyond being the creator of magnificent characters, I consider that most memorable and magisterial of their work, were the covers for the “Billiken” magazine.

Cuando mi madre comenzo a trabajar de maestra de escuela , a mediados de los años 6o, compraba semanalmente la revista Billiken,de la cual obtenía material para preparar sus clases.Mi madre conservo durante años esas revistas ,y en la década del 80 nos sirvieron de mucha utilidad a mi y a mis hermanos para realizar las tareas escolares.

When my mother begin to work of school teacher , in the middle of the years 6o, bought weekly the “Billiken” magazine, of which she obtained material to prepare his classes. My mother conserve during years those magazines, and in the decade of the 80 they served us of a lot of utility to me and to my brothers to make the school tasks.

Estas revistas fueron a parar a la basura a fines de los noventa. Ya estaban practicaménte destrozadas, ya que todos sus artículos e imagenes habían sido recortados para llenar nuestros cuadernos de la escuela. Pero en un gran momento de lucidez adolescente, quien escribe, tuvo la delicadeza de separar todas las tapas, y guardarlas en una bolsa.

These magazines went to the trash at the end of the ninety. Already they were destroyed, since all their articles and images had been trimmed to fill our school notebooks. But in a great adolescent lucidity moment, who writes, had the delicacy to separate all the covers, and to keep them in a bag.

La semana pasada encontré esa bolsa en la casa de mis padres, por lo cual , hoy poseo una colección de casi "200" portadas de Billiken ilustradas por Lino Palacio.

Last week I found that bag in my parents house, by which, today I possess a collection of almost "200" covers of “Billiken” illustrated by Lino Palacio.

Hemos hablado muchas veces en este blog de la visita de Walt Disney y un grupo de talentosos artistas a la república Argentina, pero nunca hemos hablado del contexto en el cual fue hecha esta visita.

We have spoken many times in this blog about the Walt Disney and a group of talented artists visit to Argentina, but never we have spoken of the context in which was done this visit.

En 1941 Estados Unidos estaba por ingresar a la segunda Guerra Mundial, y el gobierno estaba preocupado por conseguir aliados para después de la guerra. Dentro de un plan político llamado "Buenos vecinos" los Estados Unidos le proponen a Disney visitar varios países de latinoamerica como embajador cultural, y para promover una buena imagen del pueblo norteamericano. Disney acepta la propuesta y viaja por latinoamerica junto a un grupo de artistas que luego darían vida a varios cortometrajes reunidos en dos largos llamados "Saludos amigos " y "Los tres caballeros".

In 1941 the United States were to enter to the second World War , and the government was worried about obtaining allies after the war. Inside a political plan called "Good neighbor" the United States ask Disney to visit some latin american countries as cultural ambassador, and to promote a good image of the American people. Disney accepts the proposal and travels by latinoamerica with a group of artists, that after they would give life to a few short films joined in two long films called "Saludos Amigos" and "Los tres caballeros".

El 11 de Septiembre se estrena en Estados unidos una película documental llamada "Walt & El Grupo", dirigida por Ted Thomas (Hijo de Frank Thomas , legendario animador que formo parte de "El Grupo") la cual indaga en las verdaderas razones del viaje, y también en las experiencias de Walt y su grupo dentro de las diferentes ciudades visitadas.

On September 11 premieres in the united States a documentary film called "Walt & El Grupo" , directed by Ted Thomas (Son of Frank Thomas, legendary animator that was part of "El Grupo") which investigates in the true reasons of the trip, and also in the experiences of Walt and his group inside the different cities visited.

La película cuenta con numerosas entrevistados, entre los cuales podemos encontrar a Guillermo Guerrero (realizador de Lúpin), Cecilia y Jorge “Faruk” Palacio (hijos de Lino Palacio), y Marcelo Niño (historiador del humor gráfico argentino, y colaborador de este blog en varias ocaciones). Curiosamente, dentro de la banda musical podremos oír la maravillosa voz de Mercedes Sosa.

The movie have numerous interviewed, among which we can find Guillermo Gerrero (producer of Lúpin), Cecilia and Jorge "Faruk" Palacio (Lino Palacio daugther and son), and Marcelo Niño (historian of the Argentine graphic humor, and collaborator of this blog in several ocaciones). Curiously, inside the musical band we will be able to hear the marvelous voice of Mercedes Sosa.

En esta fotografía de la película publicada en el blog de Michael Sporn, podemos ver a Walt Disney bailando una Zamba; hermosa danza argentina en la cual se utiliza un pañuelo, y que no tienen ninguna similitud con la Samba brasilera. Creo también que el lugar es un patio del Hotel Alvear, lugar que sirvio de base de operaciones para el grupo de artistas durante su estadia en Buenos Aires, y que el conjunto musical y los bailarines pertenecen al instituto de folcklore argentino de Andrés Chazarreta (considerado el patriarca de nuestro folcklore).

In this photography from the movie published in the Michael Sporn blog, we can see Walt Disney dancing a Zamba; beautiful argentinian dance in which a handkerchief is utilized, and that do not have any similarity with the Brazilian Samba. I believe also that the place is a backyard of the Hotel Alvear, place that served of base of operations for the group of artists during their stopover in Buenos Aires, and that the musical assembly and the dancers belong to the instituto de folcklore argentino of Andrés Chazarreta (considered the patriarch of our folcklore).

Federico Radero - Pencil test

Aquí esta la escena de "El Arca" animada por Federico Radero (agradezco su colaboración ) que corresponde al storyboard de la entrada anterior. Lamentablemente Federico animó muy pocas tomas de la película, ya que abandono la producción para dedicarse a su proyecto personal : "October le chat".

Espero disfruten de la prueba de lápiz, y del indiscutible talento de Federico.

Animando / Animating

Creo que la animación dibujada a mano tiene un elemento expresivo que la animación 3D nunca podrá tener, la línea. El animador que dibuja, se expresa a través de la línea, juega con la línea, y descubre la animación buscandola en el papel a través de la línea.
Las imagenes del video fueron tomadas la semana pasada, mientras animaba a Melvin (Chocokrispis), en el tablero de Bitt Animation. Lo que podemos ver aquí , es para mi, la etapa más placentera del proceso de animación. El primer boceto de la toma. El lápiz fluye sobre la hoja descubriendo la animación. Las líneas van armando las formas, y la acción aparece al "flipear" las hojas. Es el momento de la ilusión. El momento en que el animador tiene contacto directo con el material, y por la acción de sus dedos se produce la magia. Es una experiencia comparable a la de un músico haciendo sonar su instrumento, a la del titiritero, o a la del mago que desaparece una moneda.
Me atrevo a decir que ninguna otra técnica de animación permite una experiencia semejante.

Luego habrá tiempo para limpiar los dibujos y ajustar los detalles.

I think that the hand drawn animator has an expressive element that the 3D animation never will be able to have, the line. The animator that draws, communicates through the line, he plays with the line, and discovers the animation seeking it on the paper through the line.
The images of this video were taken the last week, while I was animating Melvin (Chocokrispis), in the desk of Bitt Animation. What we can see here, is for me, the most pleasant phase of the animation process . The first sketch for a scene. The pencil flows on the paper discovering the animation. The lines go assembling the forms, and the action appears when the papers rolling. Is the moment of the illusion. The moment in which the animator has direct contact with the material, and by the action of his fingers the magic is produced. It is an experience like a musician playing his instrument, or like a puppeteer, or like the magician that disappears a coin. I dare to say that no other animation technique permits a similar experience.

Then we will have time to clean the drawings and to adjust the details.

El pasado 20 de Junio falleció en California, Jaime Diaz.
Argentino de nacimiento , Jaime Diaz viajo a Estados Unidos en 1963 para desarrollar una larga carrera en el campo de la animación trabajando en diversos estudios como Warner Bros., Hanna-Barbera, y Filmation, entre otros.
A principio de los años 80, regresa a la Argentina , y monta un estudio para proveer de animación al mercado norteamericano. Allí se realizaron capítulos completos de series como "Los Pitufos", "Pac-Man", la animación del capitulo piloto de " Dexter's Laboratory", y diversos comerciales animados para el mercado local.
Es notable la importancia de este estudio en la historia de la animación en la Argentina, ya que fue formador de toda una generación de animadores y dibujantes.
En 1995 cierra el estudio, y regresa a Estados Unidos donde continuó trabajando dentro de la industria de la animación.
Es ahí, en 1995, justo una semana antes de que vuelva a USA cuando yo lo conocí en su estudio (fui a pedir trabajo o consejos para entrar al mundo de la animación). Hablamos no mas de 20 minutos, le mostre mis dibujos, y él me dijo, ..."no te puedo ayudar , porque me vuelvo a Estados Unidos, pero seguí para adelante porque tenes talento...".
Yo estaba terminando el colegio secudario, y sus palabras me confirmaban que mi futuro debía estar sobre un tablero de animación.

Desde aqui , mis respetos para Jaime Diaz.

Last June 20 in California, Jaime Diaz passed away. Born in Argentina, he travel to United States in 1963 to develop a long career in the country of the animation, working in diverse studios as Warner Bros., Hanna-Barbera, and Filmation, among others. At the beginning of the 80's, he returns to Argentina, and opened a studio to provide animation to the American market.
There, episodes of animated tv series were carried out like "The smurfs", "Pac-Man", the animation for the "Dexter' s Laboratory" pilot, and diverse animated commercials for the local market. Is notable the importance of this studio in the history of the animation in Argentina, since he was mentor of all a generation of animators and draftsmans. In 1995 he closes the studio, and he returns to United States where continued working inside the industry of the animation.
It is there, in 1995, just a week before he return to USA again when I knew him in his studio (I went to ask work or counsels to enter to the world of the animation). We speak no more than 20 minutes, show my drawings, and he told me,... "I cannot help you, because I return to United States, but you should go ahead because you have talent. ..”. I was finishing the high school, and his words confirmed me that my future should to be on an animation desk.

From here, my respects for Jaime Diaz.

"El Empleo", an Argentine animated shortfilm, was made by Santiago 'Bou' Grasso and Patricio Plaza, obtained the FIPRESCI (the international federation of film critics) prize at the Annecy animation Festival 2009.

Todavia no tuve el placer de ver este cortometraje, pero sin duda es de gran nivel , ya que lleva cosechados mas de 20 premios internacionales. (Creo que son los primeros argentinos en ganar en Annecy)
Esto es una gran noticia para la animación Argentina, y desde aquí felicito y aplaudo a los realizadores. Felicitaciones a Santiago y Patricio!!

Still, I did not have the pleasure to see this short film, but without doubt it have great level, since it obtained more than 20 international prizes. (I believe that they are the first Argentine Annecy´s winners) This is a great news for the Argentine animation, and from here I congratulate and applaud the filmmakers. Por estos días , anda circulando en internet un falso video donde el Coyote logra atrapar al Correcaminos (increiblemente, aquí en Argentina, lo pasaron por los noticieros de la noche).

En el 2003 "Hook up animation" produjo una promo para "Hora Acme" de Cartoon Network Latinoamérica, donde realmente, el Coyote atrapa por primera ves a su presa. Tuve la suerte de animar las tres primeras tomas de la promo.

La toma que yo considero "histórica" , donde ocurre el momento tan esperado por todos, fue animada por el gran animador y director de animación Pablo Lorenzo. Él realizó un gran trabajo, otorgando a esa histórica acción, la gracia, la fluidez, el timing, y la merecida calidad técnica. (Es formidable como patalea el correcaminos cuando sus pies dejan de tocar el suelo)

Las dos últimas tomas fueron animadas por Ismael Mon , los fondos son de Fernando Sawa, y los layouts de Joche.

By these days, is circulating on the internet a fake video where the Coyote catch the Road Runner ( here in Argentina, show it on the newscasts at night). In the 2003 "Hook up animation" produced an "Acme Hour" promo for Cartoon Network Latin America, where really, the Coyote traps his prey for first. I had the luck to animated the three first scenes of the promo.

The scene that I consider "historic", where the moment occurs so expected by all, was animated by the great animator and animation director Pablo Lorenzo. He made a great work, offering to that historic action, the humor, the fluency, the timing, and it deserved technical quality. (It Is formidable the Road Runner "scramble" when their feet stop to touching the floor) The two last scenes were animated by Ismael Mon, the backgrounds were made by Fernando Sawa, and the layouts by Joche. Enjoy it.

Este hombre con cara seria, es un gran animador y director de animación argentino, con una gran trayectoria. Las buenas noticias son que Pedro ha lanzado su blog de animación, y seguramente este será muy jugoso. Por ahora, allí sólo podemos ver su Demo Reel (que no es poca cosa) con muchas pruebas de lápices para "El Cid", y algunas animaciones en 3d.

Estuve de vacaciones en Villa Gesell (Sobre la costa del océano Atlántico, a 350 km de Buenos Aires). Y en mi última noche pude hacer una pequeña, pero muy agradable visita al “Hotel Tamanacos”, hotel que administraba el gran dibujante y animador argentino Carlos Constantini.

Carlos falleció en el 2005, el tenia 69 años.
Su mujer Adriana Agostini, me recibió con mucha amabilidad y me permitió tomar unas fotografías de un trabajo original de Carlos. Aquí les comparto estas imágenes llenas de “swing”.

Queridos amigos, hoy 17 de enero, es el cumpleaños de Popeye!!!
Hoy este fantástico personaje cumple 80 años. Fue creado en 1929 por E. C. Segar como personaje secundario para la tira cómica Thimble Theatre, y luego cobro fama y popularidad, gracias a los cortometrajes animados producidos por los estudios Fleischer a partir del año 1933.
Sin duda, Popeye es uno de los personajes mas sólidos de los dibujos animados , basado en un magnífico y original diseño, una voz única, y unas cuantas latas de espinacas.
Disfruten de estas cositas que encontré "navegando" en la red.

Hace diez años estudie algo de ilustración con el "Maestro" Ignacio Noe. En su taller tuve la oportunidad de experimentar con materiales, que aunque son comunes en el mundo del dibujo y la ilustración, yo jamás había utilizado. Fueron solo unos pocos meses (un día a la semana), pero muy productivos para mi, en los cuales me enfrente a diversas técnicas de ilustración que jamás volví a utilizar. (Este año me propongo a retomar un poco estos desafíos y realizar algunas ilustraciones)

Este es mi primer y único trabajo de tramado, con tinta china negra( y unos toques de tinta blanca) sobre papel blanco. Esta basado en una fotografía de una revista. Fué realizado en 1999.

Ten years ago, I studied something about illustration with the "Master" Ignacio Noe. In its workshop I had the opportunity to experience with different materials, that although they are common in the world of the illustration, I had never utilized. It was only a few months (one day at week), but very productive for my, in which I front to diverse techniques of illustration that I never utilized again. Hace unos días, recibí un mail sobre fotografías famosas, y entre otras, estaba esta.
Some days ago, I received a mail about famous photographs, and among others, was this.

La foto fue tomada por el fotógrafo venezolano Héctor Rondón, durante un enfrentamiento militar en Venezuela, en junio del 62, y fue galardonada con un premio Pulitzer en 1963.

The photo was taken by the Venezuelan photographer Héctor Rondón, during a military clash in Venezuela, at June 1962, and it obtained a Pulitzer prize at 1963.

Al ver la foto recordé automáticamente una ilustración de Norman Rockwell. Revisé en mis libros, y comprobé a simple vista, que efectivamente, la ilustración de Rockwell se basaba en la foto tomada por Rodón, aunque esto no se mencionaba en ningún lado. Norman Rockwell realizo este trabajo para ilustrar una nota acerca de unos crímenes por cuestiones raciales, ocurridos en Mississippi en 1964. (“Look” magazine)

Upon seeing the photo I recalled automatically a Norman Rockwell illustration. I revised in my books, and I verified at first sight, that really, the illustration of Rockwell was based on the photo taken by Rodón, although this was not mentioned in no place . Norman Rockwell done this work to illustrate a note about some crimes by racial questions, occurred in Mississippi in 1964. ("Look" magazine)

En fin, descubrí el tesoro, pero el cofre ya estaba vacío. Igualmente quería compartirlo con ustedes.

Diseños de personajes / Characters design

Me parece importante comenzar mi análisis sobre este gag musical de los Muppets partiendo del particular diseño de los personajes.
En esta pieza aparecen dos criaturas tremendamente originales y únicas como son las “Snowths”(Ese es el nombre de nuestras amigables coristas rosadas.)

Seems me important to begin my analysis about this Muppets musical gag, leaving from the character design .
In this piece appear two creatures tremendously original and unique as are the "Snowths" (That is the name of our friendly pink chorus girls.)

Cuando digo original no quiero decir bonito, sinceramente no creo que sean bellas criaturas, pero si creo, que el diseño responde a su comportamiento y su función en este clip.
Hay una combinación de elementos que hacen a las “Snowths” una especie única y fácilmente reconocible. Una (la principal) es la forma de su boca (modelada solo para cantar ..”dup, dup, dururu..!!”) y la otra , como en muchos otros Muppets, la forma de sus inmóviles ojos, con grandes y delineadas pestañas postizas.

When I say original, I do not mean pretty, sincerely I do not believe that they be beautiful creatures, but if I believe, that the design responds to its behavior and its function in this clip. There is a combination of elements that do to the "Snowths" an easily recognizable and unique species. First (the main one) is the form of their mouth (shaped only to sing.." dup, dup, dururu. .!!”) and the other, as in many other Muppets, the form of its motionless eyes, with large and delineated false eyelashes.

Si usted observa este dibujo donde aparecen solo estos elementos, automáticamente reconoce al personaje.

If you observe this drawing where these elements appear, automatically recognizes the character.

El color “Rosa vibrante” del cuerpo, capta nuestra atención al instante, y colabora para identificarlas como personajes femeninos, aunque esto ya esta bien determinado en las pestañas.
Los cuernos son elementos que le dan origen animal (o demoniaco), alejándolas de una naturaleza humana.
Los brazos no tienen importancia en absoluto, son pequeños, y solo aportan un poco de movimiento al personaje. Pueden estar como no.
Creo que el diseño de las “Snowths” es una sátira simple y prolija de en par de coristas que deben lucir igual, moverse igual, y cantar exactamente lo mismo.
Y sobre todo es un concepto original, que evita utilizar la típica corista humana de silueta femenina, suplantándola por estas maravillosas y extrañas creaturas.

The color "vibrant Rose" of the body, grasps our attention to the instant, and collaborates to identify them as female characters, although this already well determined in the eyelashes.
The horns are elements that give him animal origin (or demonic), moving away of a human nature. The arms do not have importance at all, they are small, and only they contribute a little movement to the character. They can be as not. I believe that the design of the "Snowths" is an exhaustive and simple satire of two chorus girls that look equal, to be moved equal, and to sing exactly the same thing. And above all it is an original concept, that avoids to utilize the typical human chorus girl of female silhouette, replacing it for these marvelous and strange creatures.

Nuestro simpático amigo se llama “Bip Bippadotta”.
Aquí tenemos el boceto original de Jim Henson para el diseño de este personaje, que obtuve del libro de Alison Inches , “Jim Henson`s Desings and Doodles”.

Our nice friend is called "Bip Bippadotta". Here we have the original sketch of Jim Henson for the character design , that I obtained of the Alison Inches book, "Jim Henson`s Desings and Doodles".

Observando el boceto notamos que este personaje posee una morfología más humana (no nos resulta tan extraño como las Snowths), y se acerca más a un diseño tradicional de Muppets.
La boca grande ( para decir Manha- Manha) con lengua y campanilla, una simple nariz redonda, la cabeza rodeada por el cabello electrificado unido a una notoria barba, y unos particulares ojos, que si bien en el boceto parecen tener pupilas dilatadas, para mi, en esta versión final, son solo lentes oscuros . Es curioso que la forma y el color de estos es igual a la de las bocas de las “ Snowths”, y junto con estas , son los elementos que mas resaltan en el clip. Al tener lentes oscuros, el personaje evita un contacto de miradas directo con el público, dándonos la sensación de que el vive en su propia realidad.
Los colores contrastan y son vibrantes.
En definitiva, su apariencia es desprolija y payasésca.
Este diseño nos plantea un personaje desinhibido, desestructurado, y quizás un poco loco. Una especie de Rock Star hippie.

Observing the sketch, we note that this character have a more human morphology (he does not strange to us like the Snowths), and he is a more traditional Muppets design.
The big mouth (to say Manha- Manha) with tongue and chime, a simple round nose, the head surrounded by the hair electrified united to a notorious beard, and strange eyes, that though in the sketch they seem to have dilated pupils, for my, in this final version, are only dark lenses. Is curious that the form and the color of these is equal to the mouths of the "Snowths", and along with these, are the elements that stand out in the clip. Upon having dark lenses, the character avoids a direct looks contact with the viewers, giving us the sensation that he lives in his own reality. The colors contrast and they are vibrant. He look like a clown. This design give us a unstructured, uninhibited, and perhaps a little lunatic character. A species of hippie Rock Star.

El diseño de “Bip” contrasta ampliamente con el de las “Snowths”. Uno desprolijo, colorido, y eléctrico, y el otro, suave, monocromático, y delicado. Esta oposición de diseño es muy común en el mundo de la comedia.

The design of "Bip", contrasts extensively with the "Snowths" design. One messy, colorfull, and electric, and the other, soft, monochromathic, and delicate. This opposition of design is very common in the comedy world .

Hace unos días , Marcelo Niño me envio este magnifico material sobre Disney y Florencio Molina Campos. Junto con algunas fotografias, aparece este "increible" cuadro, un regalo de los estudios Disney a Don Florencio, donde firman miembros del grupo que visitó la Argentina en el año 1941, y otros grandes artistas que colaboraron en la realización de "Saludos amigos" y "Los tres caballeros".
Some days ago, Marcelo Niño send me this great stuff about Disney and Florencio Molina Campos. Along with some photograph, appears this "increible" picture, a gift of the studies Disney to Mr. Florencio, where sign members of the group that visited Argentina in the year 1941, and other bigger artists that collaborated in the production of "Saludos amigos" y "Los tres caballeros".
Lamentablemente el cuadro se encuentra en un museo actualmente cerrado , y sin los cuidados que necesita esta pieza historica.
Sadly the picture is on a museum closed at present, and without the cares that needs this historic piece.

Florencio Molina Campos (Pintor argentino) colaboró con los artistas de los estudios Disney para la realización de los cortometrajes "El gaucho Goofy" y "El gauchito volador" , ambos producto del viaje realizado por Walt Disney y un grupo de artistas por America Latina.
La obra de Molina Campos se destaca por retratar de manera humoristica , pero con absoluta fidelidad , la vida del hombre (el gaucho) de la Pampa Argentina.

Florencio Molina Campos (Argentine Painter) collaborated with the Disney artist to made the short films "The gaucho Goofy" and "The flying gauchito", both product of the Walt Disney trip by Latin American. The work of Molina Campos is emphasized to portraying with humor, but with absolute fidelity, the life of the man (the gaucho) of the Argentine Pampas.

Dia del dibujante / The Draftsman day

-Hoy, 10 de noviembre, se celebra en Argentina el día del dibujante. Este día fue establecido por la Asociacion de dibujantes argentinos en el año 1942, al realizarse en esa fecha (10 de nov.) la primer gran cena de dibujantes.

-Hoy también, los argentinos celebramos el día de la tradicíon. Recordando el nacimiento de José Hernández, autor del poema gauchesco mas importante de la literatura argentina, "El gaucho Martín Fierro" .

-Casualmente , un 10 de noviembre, pero de 1993, fallece Alberto Breccia, maestro de la historieta y la ilustración argentina.

Entonces, nada mejor que estas imagenes , para homenajear a los dibujantes , celebrar nuestra cultura, y recordar al viejo Breccia.

-Today, November 10, we celebrated in Argentina the Draftsman day . This day was established by the "Asociacion de Dibujantes Argentinos" in the year 1942, upon being carried out in that date (10 of nov.) the first one great draftsman´s dinner.

-Today also, the Argentines we celebrate the tradition day. Recalling the birth of José Hernández, author of the most important poem of the literature Argentina, "The gaucho Martín Fierro".

-Coincidentally, a November 10, but 1993, Alberto Breccia passes away , master of comic and argentinian illustration.

Encontré en el sitio "Historia de la publicidad" estos comerciales animados en la decada del 6o por Alberto Del Castillo. El producto es una bebida llamada "Tres Plumas". Yo no había nacido cuando estos spots salían al aire, y no sabía de su existencia. Ademas conozco muy poco del trabajo de Alberto Del Castillo, quien se destaca por tener unos diseños geniales para comerciales animados.

I found in the site "Historia de la publicidad" these animated commercial by Alberto Del Castillo in the 60´s. The product is a beverage called "Tres Plumas" (Three Feathers). I had not been born when these commercials was on the air, and I did not hear about its existence. Besides, I only saw a few works of Alberto Del Castillo, who have some greats character designs for animated commercial .

El 28 de Octubre de 1892 Emile Reynaud realiza la primera proyección pública de animación utilizando su invento llamado "Teatro óptico". ASIFA ( La asociación internacional de cine de animación) decidió celebrar este historico suceso, y establecer al 28 de Octubre como "El día internacional de la animacíon". On October 28th, 1892, Emile Reynaud made the first public performance of animation ,using his own invention "optical theater". ASIFA (Association Internationale du Film d' Animation)decided to celebrate this historic event, and to establish October 28 as "The international animation day". Aquí les dejo algunos trabajos de José María Cao, considerado el padre de la caricatura política argentina, quien adorno con maestria las portadas y el interior de este semanario.

Yesterday October 8 complied 110 years of the apparition of "Caras y Caretas" (Faces and masks) magazine. Through this magazine paraded the most prestigious illustrators of Argentina of principles of the twentieth century. 11 seconds club September competition

Hoy se conocieron los resultados de la competición de Septiembre del "Club de los 11 segundos" , una competencia mensual de animación de personajes, en la cual los participantes deben hacer una animación (en cualquier técnica) basada en un audio de 11 segundos otorgado por los organizadores. Yo envie una animación bocetada, lamentablemente no tuve tiempo de hacer todos los dibujos y de pulirlos , y quede en el puesto 16 .Aquí pueden ver mi trabajo , y el de los demas participantes. Today were known the results of "11 Seconds Club" september competition, a monthly competence of character animation, in which the participants should do an animation (in any technique) based on an audio of 11 seconds offered by the organizers. I send a rough animation , sadly I did not have time to do all the drawings and to polish them, and i had in the position 16.

Marioneta / Marionette

Hace dos años concurrí a un taller de realización de títeres, arte que comparte con la animación , el hecho de dar vida a objetos inanimados. El taller estuvo a cargo de los "Maestros" Alejandra Farley ( que aparece en el video) y Juan Bembassat (que filma).

La marioneta esta sin terminar (recién la había puesto los hilos) y con un comando provisorio; por eso se mueve mal y se enrrieda , ademas de ser yo el que la controla , que no tengo experiencia en ese area.

Two years ago I was going to learn how to make puppets , art that shares with the animation, the fact to give life to inanimate objects. The workshop was in charge of the "Master" Alejandra Farley (appears in the video) and Juan Bembassat ( the cameraman). The puppet is unfinished (recently i was placed the strings) and with a provisional command; therefore moves badly and entangles itself, besides, I was the puppeteer, that I do not have experience in that area.

Descubrí esto hace un tiempo. La ilustración es de J.C.Leyendecker, realizada para la edición de "The Saturday Evening Post" del 21 de noviembre de 1914. Cinco años mas tarde esta misma imagen ilustro la portada del primer número de "Billiken" (la revista infantil mas antigua y popular de la Argentina) del 19 de noviembre de 1919.
Lamentablemente no tengo las imagenes en mayor tamaño, y tampoco sabremos si Leyendecker cobró algo por esta publicación.

I discovered this a time ago. The illustration is of J. C. Leyendecker, done for "The Saturday Evening Post" of November 21, 1914. Five years after, this same image is used to illustrate the cover of the first number of "Billiken" (the more old and popular argentinean magazine for children) of November 19, 1919. Sadly I do not have the images in greater size, and never we will know if Leyendecker was paid by this publication.

Yesterday, Juan Martin Del Potro put Argentina at the Davis Cup´s finals. If you observe this photo, the first thing in calling the attention, is the look (position of the eyes) of Juan Martin. The eyes of the player are focused in their objective, the ball. And with to observe this, we know how the action will continue . "The look anticipates the action".

Cuando usted anima un personaje , es muy importante tener en cuenta este concepto.

Dirigir la mirada hacia donde vamos antes de movernos , es algo natural , algo que hacemos sin pensar. Esto aporta naturalidad y realismo a las acciones de los personajes.

Ronaldinho sabe muy bien esto , y Magic Johnson lo aplica a la perfección.

When you go to animate a character, is very important to keep in mind this concept. Directing the look toward where we go before moving us, is something natural, something that we do without thinking. This give naturalness and realism to the character actions . The Gallopin' Gaucho

Podríamos decir que la primera vez que Mickey se vistió de gaucho , fue en el año 1928, a pocos meses de haber nacido. El segundo corto animado de Mickey Mouse producido por Disney fue "The Gallopin´ Gaucho" (El Gaucho Galopante).La acción transcurría en la Pampa Argentina,(era una parodia de la película "The Gaucho"(1927), protagonizada por Lupe Velez y Douglas Fairbanks) y allí, el gaucho Mickey hacia muchas cosas que jamás hacían los gauchos, como bailar un tango, montar un ñandú, y pelear con espadas (Los paisajes tampoco son muy acertados). Pero esta falsa imagen que tenia hollywood del gaucho argentino , fue corregida (solo un poco) por Disney años mas tarde , con los cortos producidos luego de su visita a la Argentina. La animación fue realizada por Ub Iwerks (Los ciclos de corridas del ñandu son geniales), y la música estuvo a cargo del entonces novato Carl Satalling.

We can say that the first time that Mickey dressed of gaucho, was in the year 1928, to few months after his born. The second animated short of Mickey Mouse produced by Disney was "The Gallopin´ Gaucho". The action elapsed in the Argentinian Pampa, (was a parody of the movie "The Gaucho" (1927), starred by Lupe Velez and Douglas Fairbanks) and there, the gaucho Mickey toward many things that never did the gauchos, as to dance a tango, to mount a rhea, and to fight with swords (The backgrounds are neither very wise). But this Hollywood´s false image of the Argentine gaucho, was corrected (only a few) by Disney years later, with the shorts produced after its visit to Argentina. The animation was made by Ub Iwerks (The rhea´s run cycles are great), and the music was in charge of Carl Satalling.
