El premio lleva el nombre de Winsor McCay, "pionero" de la historieta y la animación. Según el diccionario, un pionero es aquella persona que innova o desarrolla algo nuevo, como así también alguién que han migrado y establecido residencia en áreas aún no colonizadas. Me atrevo desde acá, a decir que Oscar Grillo también es un pionero. La vida lo llevó a migrar de Buenos Aires a Londres, y allí, donde se estableció y formó una familia, empezó a explorar, a buscar, y junto a otros pioneros le dió una nueva vuelta a la animación. Aportó frescura y gracia, apoyado en sus maravillosos diseños salidos de una habilidosa mano de gran dibujante. Sus trabajos tenían el "swing" que hacía bailar a los ojos.
El destino no quizo que Winsor McCay gane un premio Óscar, pero hoy celebramos que Oscar tenga en sus manos un Winsor McCay.
Desde acá, desde Argentina, les comparto mi alegría por este reconocimiento a don Grillo, y le hago llegar a él, mi admiración, mis respetos, y un abrazo grande.

Last night, in the Annie Awards ceremony, the great Oscar Grillo was honored with the Winsor McCay. This award is perhaps the highest honor an artist linked to the animation can get. It is an honorary award that highlights people who have been instrumental in the history of animation, either for his career and for his distinguished contribution to this wonderful art.
The award is named Winsor McCay, "pioneer" of comics and animation. According to the dictionary, a pioneer is someone who innovates or develop something new, as well as someone who have migrated and established residence in areas not yet colonized. From here I venture to say that Oscar Grillo is also a pioneer. Life took him to migrate from Buenos Aires to London, and there, where he settled and raised a family, began exploring, searching, and along with other pioneers gave a new turn to animation. He brought freshness and grace, leaning on their wonderful designs out of a skilled hand from a great artist. His works had the "swing" that made the eyes dance.
Fate did not want that Winsor McCay to win a Oscar, but today we celebrate that Oscar have in his hands a Winsor McCay.
